If you have watched any of the bourbon documentaries out there you might have seen some of the strange bourbon decanters from the 1950’s. I know…you’re asking the same question I did….why?
Our friends at PunchDrink.com have a wonderful article explaining this. It’s hard to believe but during that time the distilleries had lots of leftovers and they didn’t know what to do with it. So to entice the buyers they put out collectible decanters. Some put out several dozen of these a year. There are only few people who still collect these things but they are delightfully quirky and in some cases downright tacky. (I love it!) In fact, COOL FACT: Wild Turkey is the most celebrated distillery as far as the decanters go because they usually used an 8-year-old fine spirit. Not to mention the artwork and quality was among the best in the game.
